#TheReadingQuest Sign Up

The Reading Quest Sign Up Post

#TheReadingQuest is hosted by Aentee at Read at Midnight. Artwork is by CW at Read, Think, Ponder.

For complete instructions, go to Aentee's blog, but here are the basics:
  • The basic mechanics of the reading challenge is simple: it’s based on a bingo board (termed The Quest Board for our purposes), each square on the board represents a stage (or reading prompt) you must complete. There is one crucial variation, the path you take on the bingo board is entirely dependent on your chosen Character Class.
  • Along with the separate Character Class quest levels (Purple Squares), the centre of the Quest Board is a conglomeration of Side Quests (Blue Squares)! Complete these challenges to earn extra points and bonus experience for your character.

Reading Quest Board

Basically, the point of the readathon is to read books that fit these video game style quests, especially those by marginalized authors.

So here's my character card! I chose Mage because I love magic and mythology.

And here are the books I plan to read! Depending on whether or not I get them in time from the library (I'll be out of town at the beginning of the readathon), it may change. I also made a spreadsheet (I love spreadsheets) to keep track of my books and points!

Character Quests:
  • A Book with a One Word Title-Riders by Veronica Rossi
  • A Book that Contains Magic-A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess
  • A Book Based on Mythology-The Dark Wife by Sarah Diemers
  • A Book Set in a Different World-Serpentine by Cindy Pon
  • The First Book of a Series-Want by Cindy Pon

Side Quests:
  • Potions-Shiny Broken Pieces by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra
  • Time Warp-The Fallen Kingdom by Elizabeth May
  • Grind-Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

I'd like to read more books than these. My goal is to finish two characters and complete four side quests.

Let me know what you think of these books and if you have any suggestions!

Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon 2017

Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon is hosted by Ely and Val.

What is #MakeMeRead?

Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.
Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers/bookstagrammers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.
When the readathon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

When is it?

This year the read-a-thon will be running from August 6th through to August 13th. You can start reading as soon as it hits 12am in your timezone, or whenever you’d like.
Remember that the idea is to have people vote on your books, so try and get that post/Twitter poll/photo up as soon as possible in order to give your fellow participants the chance to vote!

Since I'm combining this with #Unhaulathon, all of these books have been sitting on my shelves for a while. Here are the books to pick from!
Midnight Thief (Midnight Thief, #1)  Scarlet (Scarlet, #1)  Earth's End (Air Awakens, #3) The Stars Never Rise (The Stars Never Rise, #1)  Mind Games (Mind Games, #1)  The Almost Girl (The Riven Chronicles, #1)  Altered (Altered, #1)  The Scorpio Races  All These Things I've Done (Birthright, #1) Half Bad (The Half Bad Trilogy, #1)

There should be a link for each book to its Goodreads page, if everything worked out correctly!

And here's the poll!

Let me know what you plan to read and what you thought of these books! Good luck!

Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

Bout of Books 18
Bout of Books is a readathon hosted by Bout of Books.

Bout of Books is a readathon that lasts a week, with the goal being to read as much as you possibly can.

My goal is to finish Crooked Kingdom and to start The Star-Touched Queen.

I'll finish adding everything to this post later, I just want to get it posted.
