Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.
Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.
Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.
In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

Nikki's life is going back to normal. Well, as normal as it can get when your boyfriend sacrifices himself for you and his mother hates your guts. And when you're having trouble finding the only guy that can help you get him back. Yeah, pretty normal.

After weeks of trying to track down Cole, Nikki is finally able to get to him. And with a lot of convincing, she's able to persuade him to help her save Jack. Needless to say, it's not going to be easy trying to save him. He's trapped in the Everneath, and Nikki will stand out like a sore thumb. However, the one thing that can help them the most is Jack, or at least Nikki's memories of him. These memories bring up a lot of emotions both in Nikki and in Cole. Those of sadness for Nikki and anger for Cole.

It's obvious that the only reason Cole's doing this is because he desperately wants to be with Nikki, who is oblivious to his feelings. Even though he's kind of a douche, I still feel a little bad for him. He loves her so much, a good portion of that love could be for her potential to be queen, but you can tell that he really DOES love her.

During their journey through the various stages of the Everneath, with Max and Ashe, Nikki and Cole do become closer, which is good and bad. Good because Nikki can see that Cole isn't a total shit head, but bad because of that CLIFFHANGER!!! Gah it was painful! So many emotions!!

Compared to the first book, this one evoked so many more emotions in me. Maybe it was the sadness that Nikki was feeling with Jack being gone and trying to save him. I just want everyone to be happy! Again, the love triangle didn't bother me. It's not like Nikki was dry humping Cole one second and then crying about Jack. That's annoying when that's how it is.

I'm not going to give anything away about the ending, buuttttt...

Yeah, some shit hits the fan and I can't believe I didn't scream when the book ended. Did not expect that at all...

Nikki
She's just so sad and that made me sad that she's sad and it's a never-ending cycle of sadness all over the place. I just want her to be happy and not be sad anymore!

Cole
I want to love you, but I can't believe you did that...

Jack
He's hardly there so there's not much to say really.

Overall, I was worried about this book, as it's a sequel, but it kept my attention just as much as, probably even more actually than the first book. Sometimes the middle book can just be droopy, if that's an accurate thing to say, but this book kept me reading and wanting more. I can't wait for the third book, especially with that ending. THAT ENDING!!
